The project concerns the design of a holiday residence located in the area of Limpa on the island of Meganisi, intended to accommodate the needs of a couple and their guests during the summer months. The residence consists of an open-plan kitchen, dining and living area, three bedrooms, and the necessary auxiliary spaces.
Inspired by the traditional dry-stone formations that define the island’s landscape, the project unfolds as a single-storey linear volume oriented towards the view. The residence seeks a dialogue with its natural setting, employing the same architectural language of dry construction and integration with the terrain.
Upon arrival at the residence, residents and visitors first encounter the parking area, discreetly integrated among the olive trees, along with the eastern façade of the building, which reveals its architectural composition and offers a first glimpse of the pool area. The configuration of the surrounding landscape guides them towards the rear façade, through an open-air passage that leads to the main entrance. From there, the sequence unfolds into the central part of the house — the living area — where the glazed façade opens fully to the view.
The main façade, oriented towards the sea, is defined by solid stone walls enclosing the private areas and a large central glass façade that accommodates the living space. This transparent surface dissolves the boundary between interior and exterior, enhancing the sense of openness, lightness, and continuity with the surrounding landscape.
The residence is covered by a flat roof whose horizontal slab alternately extends beyond the building envelope to create shaded outdoor areas, is punctuated by openings for natural light, and partially functions as an accessible terrace – a viewing platform overlooking the sea and the surrounding landscape.
The overall intention of the design is to create an architecture that converses with the earth and light of Meganisi, maintaining a balance between the austerity of form and the material authenticity of the place.
